Low-latency inertial motion capture suits and sensors

The Yost Labs’ 3-Space™ sensor product line is a family of miniature, high-precision, high-reliability, Attitude and Heading Reference Systems (AHRS) / Inertial Measurement Units (IMU). Each Yost Labs’ 3-Space™ sensor uses triaxial gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass sensors in conjunction with advanced processing and on-board quaternion-based filtering algorithms to determine orientation relative to an absolute reference in real-time.

  • Fast sensor update and filter rate allow use in real-time applications, including stabilization, virtual reality, real-time immersive simulation, and robotics
  • Highly customizable orientation sensing with options such as tunable filtering, oversampling, and orientation error correction
  • Advanced integrated Kalman filtering allows sensor to automatically reduce the effects of sensor noise and sensor error
  • Robust open protocol allows commands to be sent in human readable form, or more quickly in machine readable form
  • Orientation output format available in absolute or relative terms in multiple formats ( quaternion, rotation matrix, axis angle, two-vector )

    • up to 250Hz with Kalman AHRS(higher with oversampling)
    • up to 850Hz with QCOMP AHRS(higher with oversampling)
    • up to 1350Hz in IMU mode

Yost Labs’ 3-Space™ sensors with QGRAD™ fusion firmware are establishing new benchmarks for low latency and high accuracy. These sensors output fully fused orientations at 850Hz (3x faster than sensors running a Kalman filter alone) providing the necessary low latency responsiveness needed for applications such as HMD tracking, drone stabilization, biomechanics analysis, and real-time robotic control. For calibrated IMU data, 3-Space sensors clock in at 1,350Hz. These impressive stats are the result of a decade of sensor fusion research and development. Yost Labs’ innovative work with 3-Space sensors has been recognized with several patent awards and numerous additional patents pending.
