Description

Product SKU: TSS-DL3-v3.1

Motion tracking, data logging, and power. One device, no infrastructure.

The Yost Labs 3-Space™ Data Logger v3 Core combines a miniature, high-precision IMU/VRU/AHRS with onboard micro-SD storage and a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery in a single end-use-ready unit. No external logger, no tethered power, no integration project. Attach it and start capturing.

GPS-denied pedestrian tracking, standard

Every Data Logger v3 ships with our EEPTS pedestrian tracking engine built in. Developed through defense-funded R&D, EEPTS delivers positional tracking where GPS can’t reach: indoors, underground, dense urban environments, and in GPS jammed environments, with floor-level altitude changes tracked via the onboard barometer. Our proprietary capability comes standard here.

Precision engineered for real-world conditions

A full 10 DOF (degrees of freedom): triaxial gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer data are fused through Yost Labs’ quaternion-based orientation filtering, while an onboard barometer adds altitude and vertical motion sensing. A dynamic sensor confidence algorithm maintains accuracy across changing operating conditions, and gradient descent calibration with high update rates compensates for sensor error. Orientation is returned in absolute terms or relative to any reference orientation you designate.

Plug in and go

Connected to a USB host, the Data Logger v3 enumerates as both a virtual COM port and a high-speed USB-C mass-storage device simultaneously. The COM port provides real-time sensor data, configuration, and diagnostics. The mass-storage device gives you direct access to captured data and logging options, no special software required.

Output in your application’s language

Raw sensor data, normalized data, or filtered absolute and relative orientation in quaternion, Euler angles (pitch/roll/yaw), rotation matrix, axis angle, and two-vector formats.

Key Features

Everything you need for orientation sensing and data capture in one self-contained unit.

Built for the field

  • Compact and light: 43mm × 40mm, from 14mm and 20 grams with the Standard Profile battery to 18.5mm and 33 grams with Long-Life
  • Integrated lithium-polymer battery with charge control: up to 10 hours with Standard Profile, up to 20 hours with Long-Life and power-saving settings
  • Onboard micro-SD logging for untethered capture, USB for real-time streaming
  • RGB status LED for at-a-glance state
  • Available in Portable and Screwdown/Strapdown form factors

Performance where it counts

  • Fast update and filter rates for highly dynamic applications: motion capture, performance analysis, navigation
  • Proprietary QGRAD3 sensor fusion outperforms Extended Kalman filtering with lower latency and lower computational overhead
  • Optional High-Range accelerometer extends measurement to ±320g for impact, shock, and high-dynamics applications, alongside the standard ±2 to ±16g Low-Range
  • Automatic reduction of sensor noise and error, with oversampling and orientation error correction options
  • Absolute or custom reference axes, with orientation output in absolute or relative terms across multiple formats

Logging that fits your workflow

  • Event-based and time-based logging with fully customizable data selection
  • Built-in clock/calendar for high-resolution timestamped events
  • Enumerates as a USB mass-storage device, pull your logged data like files from a drive
  • Full access to raw sensor data

Easy to integrate, easy to live with

  • Open protocol with human-readable ASCII mode and fast binary mode
  • Virtual COM port over USB for real-time data, configuration, and diagnostics
  • Free firmware updates for the life of the product

If it moves, we can track it

From GPS-denied navigation to pediatric medical devices to the largest naval vessels, our engineers have solved motion tracking problems no datasheet anticipated. We conduct application-specific R&D for your domain, building on our proven COTS platform or engineering one that doesn’t exist yet. Bring us the requirement everyone else said was too hard.
